I am Stan Heptinstall and I live in Bramcote which is near Nottingham in the UK. My wife Lillian and I also have a property in Buxton in the High Peak.
I worked at the University of Nottingham for many years and am now retired. On retiring, the University gave me the title of Emeritus Professor. Since retirement I have become a founding director of Platelet Solutions, a spinout company of the University that provides products for optimising healthcare. The company is an extension of the research that I performed when employed by the University.
For many years I was a local Liberal Democrat councillor which included a very enjoyable year as the Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe. In November 2018 I attended a ceremony at Beeston Town Hall and was honoured with the title of Alderman of the Borough of Broxtowe along with four others who also received honours. It was a very special evening.
I get involved in community activities; for example, for many years I chaired the meetings of the Bramcote and Stapleford Golden Jubilee Group that organises the Hemlock Happening. I am also active in my local church, where I am a churchwarden. I also chair the Executive Committee of SW Notts Scouts.
In 2019, having become acquainted with Liberal Democrats in Buxton, I stood for election to the High Peak Borough Council as a representative of Corbar Ward, but was not elected. The positive thing was that I enjoyed working with the local people enormously. I am also a volunteer at the Buxton Spring Fair where I am responsible for the stage in Spring Garden's on that day.
