We discussed the state of the grass verges and the litter problems. The response was that their budgets had been cut and urban sections of the A52 receive no additional attention to that given to other trunk roads. Peter and I urged them to argue for more funding for urban areas.
Yesterday I received a phone call from Aone+, the contractors for the Highways Agency in our area, and was told that the situation is about to improve. Additional funds have now been made available to ensure that grass verges are kept in good order and that additional litter clearance will take place while this work is being performed.
It remains to be seen how quickly this new approach will be enacted and whether the results match the promise, but I really do hope for some real improvements very soon.
