Come to an event at the White Lion in Beeston at 2pm on Saturday 21st March and listen and contribute to a discussion on the Chilwell Munitions Tragedy. An ambitious project is in development (see below) to record and present information on the tragedy that occurred almost 100 years ago. There will be a separate announcement very soon on the lottery funding that will enable this significant event to be put in place. The organisers are aiming for a great deal of activity on 4th and 5th July this year.
Sue Sambells, one of the editors of Bramcote Today, attended the Bramcote CAT meeting last week and has produced a report of the meeting that can be accessed here. All three Bramcote councillors were present and contributed to the various discussions on issues such as planning applications, the green belt boundary review, the review of the County Council divisions, highway matters, and much more.
As a county councillor for the area I am informed that part of Cow Lane will be closed on 20th and 21st April for a new gas supply to be installed. The section to be closed is that between the A52 Derby Road and Hillside Road.
Last night I chaired the meeting of Broxtowe Borough Council at which it was agreed that there should be no increase in the council tax levied by Broxtowe Borough Council for the financial year 2015/16. The agreement has all party support. I am absolutely delighted that the Council decided to take a grant equivalent to a 1% increase in council tax made available by the Government rather than ask the public to pay instead. I am proud to be a member of Broxtowe Borough Council.
There is a temporary road closure tonight on Coventry Lane near to Longdon Close for repairs to a burst water main. There will be 2-way temporary signals in operation. The work should be completed by 6am tomorrow morning.
